The Honorable Robert B. Hauck, former Mayor of the Borough of Flemington and the Township of Readington, NJ, age 81 years, died on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in New York City, NY, September 19, 1935, son of the late Anthony M. Hauck, Jr. and Virginia E. Brokaw Hauck, he was a longtime resident of Hunterdon County, NJ.
Robert graduated from the Blair Academy in 1954, serving on the school’s undefeated football team his senior year. He then attended the College of William and Mary before deciding on entering the American Academy of Funeral Service in New York City, NY. Upon graduating in 1959, he received the award for Outstanding Academic Proficiency in all academic and clinical areas of the curriculum and earning his New Jersey License as a Practitioner of Mortuary Science, #2519.
Serving his community as a licensed funeral director for many years, Robert owned and operated the Robert B. Hauck Funeral Home in Whitehouse, NJ from 1959 through 1972 where his compassion and selflessness helped many during some of their most trying times. Known as a man of integrity, passion and humbleness, his legacy of service as a Funeral Director is just one of his many civic accomplishments. He was a longtime member of the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association.
He was a Readington Township Committeeman from 1963-1970, serving as Mayor in 1967. He then went on to become Clerk of the Hunterdon County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 1972-1975. He served as Deputy Freeholder Board Clerk in 1976 then as Secretary to the Hunterdon County Clerk from 1977-1980.
His dedication of service to the Borough of Flemington will also not be forgotten as Robert served as Clerk from 1981-2000, was the Planning Board Secretary from 1981-1986, served as a member of the Planning Board since 1991, a Councilman from 2003-2006 and elected Mayor in 2007 where he served until 2010.
He was a member of the Hunterdon County Municipal Clerk’s Association, serving as Past-President; was a life member of the New Jersey Municipal Clerk’s Association; a member and Past-President of the Flemington Lions Club since 1982; and was a Director of Somerset Savings Bank from 1970-2015.
Robert was a former member of the East Whitehouse Fire Department for sixteen years, serving as Past-President and Treasurer, as well as a former member of the Whitehouse Rescue Squad for five years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Hauck, in 2015.
Surviving are his wife, Robin A. Weber Hauck, with whom he joined hands in marriage on November 19, 1981 at the gazebo behind the Old Historic Courthouse in Flemington, NJ; a son and his longtime companion, James Hauck and Lorrie French of Satellite Beach, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Elisa Hauck of Whitehouse, NJ; a brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and June Hauck of Frenchtown, NJ; a sister, Alexandra Dell Amore of Oil City, PA; a sister-in-law, Carol Hauck of Brewster, MS; three grandchildren, Danielle, Olivia and Mathew Hauck; and many extended family and friends.
Funeral Services will take place on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in the Hunterdon County Historic Court House, Main Street, Flemington, NJ under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ. This will be preceded by visitation from 2:30-4:00 p.m., all at the Historic Court House. Please be advised that the facility is fully handicapped accessible and funeral home staff will be located in front and back of the facility to assist with parking and any special needs.
