Walter Mironchik, age 89 years, of Kingwood Township, NJ, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born May 18, 1926 in New York City, NY, son of the late Stefan and Thecla “Tessie” Yeskewich Mironchik, Walter’s family moved to Kingwood Township eighty-five years ago when he was a young boy of four years old. They settled on a 70 acre farm.
As an elementary student he attended a one room schoolhouse. He then went on to graduate from Frenchtown High School. In high school, Walter played third base for the school’s baseball team.
He was a retired Administrative Assistant to the Princeton Township Engineer where he had worked many years.
Walter was a longtime Democrat who became interested in politics as a young man. After running for office, he served as a Kingwood Township Committeeman, Mayor of Kingwood Township and also served as the Township Clerk for a number of years. He was a proud member of the Democratic Civic League and the Hunterdon County Democratic Organization.
He enjoyed serving his community throughout his lifetime. A charter member of the Kingwood Township Rescue Squad, Walter also served as a member of the Kingwood Auxiliary Police.
Travel was also something Walter greatly enjoyed. He and his wife belonged to a camping club, The Blue Mountain Wanderers. They traveled throughout the United States, Alaska being one of Walter’s favorite trips. Besides camping, they also took trips to Italy, Russia and the Caribbean islands.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his brother, George; his great niece, Marissa Higgins; and sister-in-law, Helen Sona.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of forty-four years, Maryann Liscinski Mironchik; his sister-in-law, Mary Mironchik of Sacramento, CA; his brother-in-law, Andrew Liscinski and his wife, Lynne in FL; his sister-in-law, Janice Michens and her husband, Joseph of Manchester, NJ; his brother-in-law, Louis Sona of Manchester, NJ; several extended family members including several nieces and nephews: James Mironchik, Theresa and Craig Higgins, Anne Mironchik, Francis Mironchik, Joseph and Andrew Michens, Debra and Greg Coats, Harold, Andrew and Nina Sona, Andrew and Janice Liscinski, Deborah, and Sharon and John Eric; and three grand nieces and five grand nephews. He will be missed by all.
A Funeral Liturgy officiated by V. Rev. Bohdan Ostash will take place on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 1034 2nd Avenue, Alpha, NJ, under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ. Interment services will be private. Visiting will be Thursday from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
